Visa Information
What is the Latest News about Travel to the United States?
The U.S. Department of State is the most trusted source for up-to-date information on visa and passport issues.
Do I need a Visa to enter the United States?
Visa requirements vary based on national origin, current residence, previous travel, and passport eligibility.
- The Visa Wizard is a tool to help travelers understand what type of visa may be needed
- If you are eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) you may not need to apply for a visa, but you must have a valid Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA). For more information on the VWP visit the Visa Waiver Program site here.
How to Apply for a Visa
Wait times for visas in certain countries can be significant. ASN recommends that attendees apply for a visa as soon as travel is anticipated. Travelers will need to complete an application, provide a photograph, and may be required to undergo an interview. Contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your country for specific application procedures. For an accurate assessment of wait times in your country, visit the Visa Appointment Wait Times page.
Letter of Invitation
Invitation letters will be available for print or download upon completion of your online meeting registration. This invitation is intended to facilitate travel and visa arrangements but does not extend financial support. For assistance, please contact [email protected].
Please note: ASN cannot intervene with either U.S. embassies abroad or with the U.S. Department of State. It is recommended that you bring your letter of invitation as well as your meeting registration confirmation to your visa interview.
Travel Preparation Tips
- Check Official Travel Resources: Look over travel advisories issued by your home country (country of citizenship and/or residence), as well as other reputable official sources.
- When Needed Seek Professional Legal Guidance: If you are unsure about any aspect if your visa, immigration status, or your rights when entering the U.S., consider reaching out to an immigration lawyer who is familiar with U.S. entry requirements.
- Familiarize Yourself with U.S. Entry Procedures: Be aware that U.S. Customs and Boader Protection (CBP) officers may ask about the reason for your visit. Make sure your visa application and supporting documents clearly and accurately reflect your travel purpose.
- View the CBP official travel site here
- Be Mindful of Online Presence: CBP may review publicly accessible digital information, including social media, to confirm your visa status or travel intentions. Ensure what is online is consistent with the purpose of your trip.
- Use Caution with Electronic Devices: Although device checks by the CBP are not common, consider traveling with only necessary devices and limit devices with sensitive personal or work-related information stored on them.
