NUTRITION 2023 will continue to offer the high-quality, valuable content you’ve come to expect from the pre-eminent nutrition meeting.

The program features scientific symposia and educational sessions, unpublished research studies presented in oral and poster sessions and flash talks, award lectures delivered by distinguished leaders, professional and career development opportunities, and events with ASN’s vibrant scientific communities known as Groups Engaging Members (GEMs).  Attendees also will have opportunities to network with leaders from funding agencies, industry and other organizations.

  • The Suskind Pediatric Nutrition Lifetime Achievement Award Lecture to recognize a physician, clinician or investigator who has made a significant lifetime contribution to the field of pediatric nutrition.  
  • The W.O. Atwater Memorial Lecture to recognize a scientist who has made unique contributions toward improving the diet and nutrition of people around the world in honor of Wilbur Olin Atwater (1844-1907), the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s first chief of nutrition investigations.

Accreditation Statement

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the American Society for Nutrition (ASN).

The American Society for Nutrition is accredited by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

ASN (Provider #NS010) is accredited and approved by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) as a provider of Continuing Professional Education (CPE) programs for Registered Dietitians.

Learners can claim credit for live attendance only. Credit will be awarded on a per session basis, upon successful completion of the session evaluation. Physicians should claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Registered Dietitians

ASN designates this annual meeting live activity for a maximum of 18.75 CPE credits. Click here for the list of sessions which offer CPE credit for registered dietitians.

Non-physician and Non-dietetic Healthcare Professionals

ASN does not offer CME credit to non-physicians. However, all non-physician and non-dietetic healthcare professionals at NUTRITION 2023 will be able to complete an evaluation and download a Certificate of Participation. This certificate designates your participation in this education activity. It lists the amount of continuing medical education credit that has been designated for physicians by ASN. You should be able to use this documentation for your licensing or certification needs. To determine if activities designated for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ are acceptable for your licensing or certification needs, please contact your credentialing body directly. Please note ASN cannot guarantee its acceptance.

Instructions for Claiming Credit

Learners must complete the activity evaluations to receive continuing education credit.

Credit will be claimed on DiscoverNUTRITION, ASN’s online learning platform. Learners must have an account on the DiscoverNUTRITION website to proceed.

Credit must be claimed and certificates must be downloaded by September 30, 2023.

Step 1: Create a DiscoverNUTRITION account

  • If you are a member of ASN:
    • Click the ‘ASN Discover Nutrition login’ button. 
    • Enter your ASN member login credentials. 
    • Click the ‘LOG IN’ button. 
    • You will be returned to the learning portal website to complete your profile information for the DiscoverNUTRITION website. 
  • If you are not a member of ASN:
    • Click ‘Create new visitor account’ in the Visitor Login section. 
    • Complete the online form. 
    • Click the ‘Create new visitor account’ button at the bottom of the page.  

Step 2: Once logged into the DiscoverNUTRITION website, enroll in the appropriate course relevant to your qualifications. See below for direct links to the courses available for each specific learner group.

Step 3: Click the Register tab for the course and enter the following code to gain access to it: ASN23

Step 4: In the course, follow all instructions to (1) complete the evaluations for sessions attended, and (2) the overall continuing education evaluation. The final step of downloading a certificate for the NUTRITION 2023 sessions evaluated by the learner will become available on Tuesday, July 25 at 12:00 PM ET.

  • Feedback on each session attended must be provided. CME/CE credit will not automatically be awarded.
  • Follow all instructions for completing the required information.
  • Please note session evaluations will not be available until the date on which the session is scheduled to take place.

ASN welcomes the submission of unpublished research in the form of abstracts for presentation at NUTRITION 2023.

At NUTRITION 2023, abstract presentations offer attendees the ideal opportunity to present their own research and learn more about their peers’ science. Accepted abstracts will be presented in poster and oral sessions from July 22-25, 2023 in Boston, MA. We hope to see you and your science at NUTRITION 2023!

Abstracts can include:

  • New research: Unpublished research and/or secondary analysis of data
  • Methods: Newly established or characterized methods, or evaluations of existing methods
  • Protocols: Descriptions of proposed studies, or recruitment and process results of newly started studies
  • Case study vignette: A clinical vignette or case report is a means of disseminating new knowledge gained from clinical practice

Late Breaking/Rapid Science Submission

This year, the American Society for Nutrition accepted Late Breaking/Rapid Science submissions for NUTRITION 2023. This category of submissions is for high-impact scientific research for which results were not available by the March 1, 2023 general abstract submission deadline. 

These submissions should present data that are high impact, groundbreaking, innovative and newsworthy. This category is not a mechanism to update data submitted during the general abstract submission period. 


The submission period for Late-Breaking/Rapid Science closed April 17, 2023.

Key Dates

Late Breaking/Rapid Science submission opens: March 20, 2023 
Submission deadline: April 17, 2023, 11:59 PM ET 
Notifications sent: May 1, 2023 

  1. Submissions must not have been presented, accepted for presentation or published at any other scientific meeting or journal at the time of submission.

  1. A submission is ineligible for consideration if preliminary data were available at the time of the March 1 general abstract submission deadline.

  1. Do not resubmit work already submitted during the general abstract submission period.

  1. If another abstract based on the late breaking trial/study discussed in the Late Breaking/Rapid Science submission was submitted during the general NUTRITION 2023 abstract submission process, please contact education@nutrition.org.

  1. Submissions will be evaluated on impact of research, novelty, rigor of design and innovation.

  1. Late Breaking/Rapid Science submissions will not be published along with NUTRITION 2023  abstracts in Current Developments in Nutrition.

  1. Embargo Policy: All authors must read and comply with the NUTRITION 2023 embargo policy. Selected submissions are embargoed until the beginning of the first session in which they are presented, whichever happens first. An embargo means that information and data pertaining to the submission may not be announced, publicized or distributed before the embargo date and time. Promotion of general topics, speakers or presentation times is allowed and encouraged as long as specific findings are not included in the announcement.

  1. Simultaneous Journal Publication: Simultaneous publication of trials is acceptable and encouraged as long as the embargo policies of NUTRITION 2023 and the involved journals are coordinated. If a trial/study has been submitted to and accepted for publication, the presenter is responsible for ensuring that the journal editor respects ASN’s embargo policy. Publication of a trial/study in print or on a journal web site prior to presentation at NUTRITION 2023 will necessitate withdrawal of the trial/study from the program.

  1. Meeting Participation: Completion of a Late Breaking/Rapid Science submission constitutes a commitment by the presenting author to present it if selected. Failure to present, if not justified, will jeopardize future acceptance of submissions for ASN conferences.

  1. Registration Fee: Presenting authors associated with Late Breaking/Rapid Science submission must register for the meeting. The registration fee is separate from the Late Breaking/Rapid Science submission fee. For updates about registration for NUTRITION 2023, please visit https://nutrition.org/N23/.

  1. Notifications: Notifications will be sent by email regarding if the submission has been selected as a Late Breaking/Rapid Science presentation by May 1, 2023.

  1. Withdrawal: To withdraw a submission, written notification must be sent to education@nutrition.org.

The information listed below must be included in each Late Breaking/Rapid Science submission. While these submissions are not considered to be abstracts, Late Breaking/Rapid Science submissions must be submitted through the NUTRITION 2023 Abstract Submission website.

Submissions can begin to be submitted on March 20, 2023.

  1. Title: The submission title should be entered in Title Case and be short and specific. The submission title has a character limit of 150 characters not including spaces.

  1. Presenting Author Academic Level: The academic level of the presenting author must be indicated.

  1. Author Information: A presenting author must be added to a submission. Co-authors can also be added. Contact information (organization, address, email address, telephone number) and credentials (degree) must be provided. Please follow the directions provided to confirm and complete presenting author and co-author profiles.

  1. Late Breaking/Rapid Science Submission Information:  

    • Submission Type: Submitters must indicate the type of trial/study discussed in the submission. Options include: 

      • Clinical trial
      • Multicenter observational study or registry
      • Secondary analysis of major trial
      • Other

    • Submission Body: Submissions must include Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions, and Funding Sources. The submission body has a character limit of 2000 characters not including spaces. When entering the submission body, please proof the information carefully to confirm that any special characters (such as α, β, etc.) are displaying properly.

  1. Authors’ Statement and Embargo Policy Agreement: The presenting author must confirm that all authors are (1) authorized to submit this Late Breaking/Rapid Science submission on behalf of the presenting author and co-authors, (2) the presenting author and co-authors have read and agree to the NUTRITION 2023 embargo policy, and (3) the presenting author has received permission from their collaborators to present this submission at NUTRITION 2023 if it is selected for presentation.

  1. Submission Fee: A non-refundable $125 processing fee is required for each Late Breaking/Rapid Science submission. An email will be sent to the submitter as documentation of the payment.

  1. Submission Completion: Once all tasks for the submission are complete, on the submission’s task list page submitters should click the ‘Next’ and ‘Submit’ to officially complete the submission. A confirmation email will be sent to the submitter. Submissions can be revised up until the April 17, 2023, 11:59 PM ET deadline.
