Almonds: Food for Fitness

February 22, 2023 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM ET

Join us to learn from David Nieman, DrPH, FACSM, leading exercise science expert, as he presents his new research suggesting that almond consumption may promote muscle recovery and reduce fatigue after exercise. Both the live 1-hour webinar and the recording are free and have been approved for 1 CPEU by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. The provider of CPE credit is the Almond Board of California.

Engaging in exercise promotes a healthful lifestyle, but even when performed correctly, exercise causes fatigue and muscle damage. Recovery from exercise is important because it leads to muscle gain and improved fitness over time. In this webinar, Dr. Nieman will discuss the importance of nutrition in recovery from exercise and will share just-published findings on how almond intake may support muscle function, promote muscle recovery and reduce fatigue after physical activity. This webinar is hosted by the American Society for Nutrition and sponsored by the Almond Board of California.

Learning Objectives

  1. Describe the importance of nutrition in exercise performance and recovery from exercise
  2. Explain how the nutrients in almonds can support exercise routines and muscle recovery
  3. Describe the results of emerging new research on the impact of almonds on muscle recovery and fatigue and tension after physical activity.

Faculty

Dr. Nieman is professor and director of the Appalachian State University Human Performance Laboratory at the North Carolina Research Campus. He is a pioneer in the research areas of exercise and nutrition immunology and has published more than 390 peer-reviewed publications in journals and books which have been cited more than 51,000 times.
