The American Society for Nutrition Foundation is seeking applicants for the next Dennis Bier, MD Early Career Editor for The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The Early Career Editor is tasked with assisting with the development of clinical content for health care professionals through a new journal feature, Nutrition for the Clinician, and translating journal content to a clinical audience.
In January 2019, Dennis Bier, MD retired as Editor-of-Chief of The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a position he had expertly led for over a decade. Dr. Bier’s commitment to evidence-based practice in nutrition was unrivaled and through this early career editor position, the ASN Foundation aims to extend his legacy to future generations.

Responsibilities
- Primarily, this person will assist AJCN editors with the newly-launched section, Nutrition for the Clinician, which provides case-based learning of practical topics in clinical nutrition. The Early Career Editor will help shape this position to promote and expand journal content to target audiences, particularly medical providers.
- Secondarily, this person will support or lead activities to engage physicians with the AJCN
- Assist with journal editorial processes, including acting as a peer reviewer/editor
Compensation & Term
- $2,500 annual stipend
- Up to $1,500 annually to support travel/registration to ASN annual NUTRITION meeting
- Reimbursement for travel and accommodations for an orientation with senior editors
- Term: June 2026 – May 2028
Eligibility
Applicants must be/have:
- A junior faculty, physician/resident or other early career professional with an interest in nutrition science and/or clinical nutrition (within 10 years of terminal degree). MD/DO preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in nutrition research and clinical practice
- Publishing experience
- Excellent writing skills
- Enthusiasm for clinical pedagogy and case-based learning
- Experience in science communications
- Familiarity with social media platforms (e.g., X, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube)
