ASN’s Committee on Advocacy and Science Policy (CASP) has partnered with the ASN Minority and Diversity Affairs Committee (MDAC) to develop this webinar. This webinar focuses on the consideration of diversity and inclusion when conducting research to inform and implement food and nutrition guidance policy. For the purposes of this webinar, food guidance policy includes the Dietary Reference Intakes (DRIs) and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The webinar will review how the evidence base is considered in food guidance policy development and then turn to discussions on research design protocols that incorporate diversity and inclusiveness, such as the use of community-based participatory research. The webinar will also highlight research considerations for implementing food guidance policy among diverse and minority populations. This webinar is part of the CASP Nutrition Policy Webinar series, designed to help ASN members better understand the interface between research and nutrition policy.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, attendees will be able to:
- Describe the food guidance development process, how evidence is considered, and its relevance to nutrition policy and minority populations and inclusiveness.
- Identify key components, approaches, and data gaps related to research designs that include diversity and inclusion when studying food guidance development and implementation.
