Rockville, MD – May 28, 2020 – The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) Foundation awarded the Herbalife Nutrition Scholarship to Katie Ellison, MS, RDN, LDN. The $5,000 scholarship aims to support the research and/or clinical training of a promising student seeking an advanced degree in dietetics, nutritional science, or related fields. Sponsored by Herbalife Nutrition, the award will be presented in the weeks leading up to ASN’s virtual event, NUTRITION 2020 LIVE ONLINE.

Ellison is a PhD student in the Department of Nutrition Science at The University of Alabama at Birmingham, her research is specializing in plant-based diets for weight maintenance and metabolic flexibility.

“Through the Herbalife Nutrition Scholarship, the ASN Foundation has an opportunity to foster tomorrow’s leaders,” stated ASN President Richard Mattes, PhD, MPH, RD. “We are delighted to support Katie’s quest to develop new community interventions that promote wellness and disease prevention.”

The scholarship is directed to Registered Dietitians (RD) or those intending to become an RD who are members of the American Society for Nutrition. Herbalife Nutrition has provided a commitment to the ASN Foundation to support this annual scholarship through 2023. A call for applications for the next round of scholarship funding will open in August 2020.
