In Episode 2 of ASN’s ‘Meet the Leader’ series we sit down with member Dr. Sheila Fleischhacker and talk ASN’s commitment to food and nutrition policy, mentoring the next generation of nutrition policy professionals and more…

We are pleased to present our second episode of Meet the Leader featuring ASN Member Dr. Sheila Fleischhacker. Dr. Fleischhacker has been an ASN Member since 2014. As a member, she has been an active part of the Community and Public Health Research Interest Section (RIS); ASN’s Committee on Advocacy and Science Policy; mentor to ASN’s Science Policy Fellows; and has served on the Board of Directors as Director-At-Large for Food and Nutrition Policy.

In addition to earning a Bachelor of Science and Juris Doctor, Dr. Fleischhacker earned a Certificate in Health Law from Loyola University Chicago and a PhD in Integrative Biosciences/Nutritional Sciences from The Pennsylvania State University. She completed her Interdisciplinary Obesity Post-doctoral fellowship with a focus in urban and regional planning and public health nutrition at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also completed a RDN internship at Iowa State University. She is now an adjunct professor of law at the Georgetown University Law Center and a National Science Liaison at The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA).

ASN’s Meet the Leader interview series shines a spotlight on our members who have excelled in their field. Each episode will correspond with a unique Research Interest Section (RIS) or Council. Leaders are asked questions about their areas of interest,  journey in their career, opinions on the future of the field, and offer their advice to the next generation of nutrition scientists on how to navigate and succeed in the challenges that await them. Following the interview, student and early career members that serve on leadership committees of ASN’s Groups Engaging Members (GEMs) interact with the leader during a Q&A portion.
