Peer reviewers play an essential role in advancing nutrition science. Together with editors and editorial board members, they help ensure the quality, rigor, and integrity of the research published across the American Society for Nutrition (ASN) journals.

Every paper published in an ASN journal benefits from the collective expertise of these volunteers and scientific leaders, who work closely with authors to strengthen manuscripts and help ensure readers can trust the science published across ASN’s portfolio of journals.

ASN is grateful to every reviewer who contributed during the past year and is pleased to recognize a select group of Top Reviewers selected based on a combination of factors, including:

  • Number of completed reviews
  • Timeliness of review completion
  • Feedback from journal editors

This year’s honorees completed multiple reviews while maintaining exceptionally prompt turnaround times and providing thoughtful, constructive feedback that helped authors improve their manuscripts.

Why Peer Review Matters

Peer review is one of the foundations of scientific publishing. It helps improve the quality of individual papers while strengthening confidence in the research that informs health care, public policy, education, and discovery.

Peer review is also a collaborative process. Editors, editorial board members, and reviewers each play an important role in evaluating research and helping authors strengthen their work. Together, they help ensure that published studies meet high scientific standards.

Through the peer review process, reviewers evaluate the quality of the research, determine if conclusions are supported by the data, identify potential limitations, and provide constructive feedback to authors. Their insights often lead to stronger analyses, clearer communication, and more rigorous research.

The value of this work is reflected in feedback from authors themselves. In a recent survey of authors who published in ASN journals, many highlighted both the quality and timeliness of the peer review process.

“Very quick review; the feedback from reviewers was very helpful, relevant, and written in a sympathetic manner. The reviewers’ suggestions improved the quality of my scientific article. Thank you.”
