ASN Member Catherine Woteki, PhD joins a group of 30 leaders in science and technology appointed by the Biden administration.

Rockville, MD (September 24, 2021) –The American Society for Nutrition (ASN) congratulates Catherine Woteki, PhD on her appointment to the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST). This week President Biden announced his appointment of thirty accomplished leaders who will make scientific, technology and innovation policy recommendations to the President and the White House addressing national challenges and opportunities. This appointment is one of many accomplishments recognizing Dr. Woteki’s scientific expertise and contributions to the field of nutrition, agriculture and health policy.

Dr. Woteki is a 35-year member of ASN. In 2013, she was named a Fellow of ASN, the highest honor the Society bestows on its members. She currently serves as Chair of the ASN Foundation. She is a Visiting Distinguished Institute Professor in the Biocomplexity Institute at The University of Virginia and Professor of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Iowa State University. She has served in key positions in the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the White House Office of Science Policy, Iowa State University, and Mars, Inc.

PCAST began in 1957 and is a group of 30 U.S. Presidential appointees who are some of the nation’s most accomplished leaders in science and technology. This PCAST has been noted as the most diverse in history, with half of the members being women, and one third of the members being people of color and immigrants.
