Research conducted by ASN members and other scientists can provide critical information important for policy development. This webinar will help ASN members understand the nature of nutrition science policy and how it interfaces with nutrition research as well as the way in which research is integrated into policy development. The program will begin with a general discussion of nutrition policy. It will then provide two examples of policy outcomes highlighting how they came into being and the use of nutrition research. One example will be policies related to folic acid food fortification. The second example will focus on legislation and child nutrition specifically germane to the obesity components of the Healthy Hunger-free Kids Act. The presentations will be followed by a brief panel discussion outlining gaps and future needs for research relevant to nutrition science policy.
