How can omic methodologies improve our understanding and provide solutions to public health nutrition?

We are entering an Age of Public Health Biology. The field of nutrition is uniquely positioned to protect the health of populations by discovering and applying knowledge of molecular mechanisms related to diet and nutriture.

To date, the use of omics in public health nutrition research has largely focused on precision nutrition to assess interindividual variability in response to dietary exposures to help explain risk of adverse health outcomes and inform dietary recommendations.

New omics approaches are being used to discover new metabolic effects of micronutrient deficiencies and responses to interventions within and between populations to inform and guide public health application.

This session provides examples of how omic methodologies can improve our understanding of, and solutions to, problems of major importance in population-level public health nutrition.

Our goal is to foster new research collaborations and conversations between experts in omics, basic science, and population health.
